From humble beginnings to industrial real estate success
Kor’s journey is one of grit and determination. His family struggled to make ends meet, which saw him take up part-time work when he was just 11 years old, initially selling beehoon door-to-door around Bukit Panjang to earn a mere five cents per packet.
By the time he was a teenager, he was juggling multiple jobs. He was a newspaper and flyer distributor, fast-food restaurant worker, hawker stall helper and cleaner. He recalls working three jobs from 5 am to 11 pm daily from age 15 to 17.
His relentless focus on work led to academic struggles, which resulted in multiple school suspensions and eventually expulsion while he was a Secondary four student. He was twice rejected admission into the Institute of Technical Education and eventually entered National Service when he turned 18.
He then spent a decade taking on various roles, such as a factory worker, security guard, house mover and retail staff. But when he turned 30, with a young family of two children and a father battling cancer, he decisively moved to take control of his future.
He took a leap of faith into real estate. Getting started was not easy or straightforward for him. Despite passing the real estate salesperson exam, it took him seven months of appeals before he was granted his real estate salesperson licence. He shares: “I can accept failure, but I can’t accept not trying.”
He adds: “I began as a part-time agent and started my career serving clients in the industrial property market while holding another job in retail to support my young family.”
It took him two months to transition into being a full-time agent, which saw him spending long hours on the job and working hard to sharpen his skills compared to his peers at the time. “My persistence paid off when, within my first year as a rookie, I earned six times my previous income,” he recalls.
Over the years, Kor has become widely known within the industry as a consistent top producer in the local industrial real estate market.
