Florence Wong: Growing the next generation of real estate professionals

At 53, Florence Wong could easily rest on the laurels of a life well-lived: a successful real estate career, a solid marriage and three grown children who no longer need her guiding hand. But that’s simply not how she’s wired.

When we met for the interview, I was struck by her naturally maternal yet unobtrusive manner: she gently touched my elbow and offered me a drink with a warm, trusting and open gaze.

I knew that I was in the presence of someone who was quietly confident and prepared to focus all her attention on others. This is the kind of energy that Wong brings as she actively seeks members to join her select team.

For her, success isn’t a solo pursuit; success grows when it’s shared. “I’m not just building a team,” says Wong. “I’m planting seeds. I want people who are willing to put in the work, take risks and grow into the best version of themselves — professionally and personally.”

More than a recruitment call, it’s an invitation into a culture of learning, grit and possibility.

Groundbreaking growth

Before real estate, Wong was no stranger to the hustle. Her journey spans family-run F&B businesses, fashion retail, purchasing and procurement. These diverse experiences sharpened her business acumen, taught her to manage customers with empathy and shaped the way she now leads, with both heart and precision.

“When you’ve been in service-oriented industries, you learn to listen — really listen. That’s shaped my approach to everything I do.”

She entered real estate seeking stable income after marriage, but what she found was more than financial security. She discovered a passion for people and a platform for lifelong growth. Today, Wong runs a tight-knit team of 10 agents, and she’s ready to expand.

Building on consistency

Wong’s dream team isn’t built on charisma or charm. It’s built on consistency. She says: “This business rewards those who show up every day with a plan and the patience to execute it.”

Her ideal recruits are in their late 20s to early 30s, not because of age, but because of their mindset. “Young professionals today are sharp. They bring fresh energy and are often more open to learning from one another. That peer learning is powerful,” adds Wong.

However, what truly sets her team apart is the culture she has created. It’s a space where mistakes are seen as lessons, not liabilities. Her agents don’t just compete, they collaborate. Commonly, they work across segments — from new projects, private and HDB residential resales to rentals and commercial listings — learning together through small group discussions, on-site training and hands-on project walkthroughs.

“We don’t just talk theory,” she says with a smile. “We’re out there walking the ground, handling real listings, learning what actually works.”

Tools, training and trust

At the heart of Wong’s leadership is an understanding that knowledge needs to be shared and systems need to be utilised.

The team utilises Sales Plus, a robust platform developed by her agency, ERA, which offers financial calculators, blogging tools, EDM systems and real-time market data. But it’s not just about access. “The tools are only powerful if you know how to use them. That’s where I come in,” Wong says.

With the patience of a mentor and the insight of someone who has been through multiple industry shifts, Wong guides her agents in maximising these resources, especially those who are just starting.

Leadership training, project-specific toolkits and peer-sharing sessions further strengthen the team’s learning ecosystem. But perhaps the most underrated support Wong provides is emotional.

“This job isn’t just about closing deals. It’s about showing up for people, your clients, your team and yourself. Sometimes, my agents come to me not for strategy, but for support. I’m here for that too.”

Mentorship that moves the needle

Many of Wong’s agents have transformed their lives, from affording a new family car to supporting their children’s further education. These success stories fuel her passion. “That’s the impact I want to create,” she says. “Not just teaching someone how to sell a house, but helping them build a life.”

She tells of a co-broke agent who became a friend, confiding in her about personal struggles that were affecting her professional life. Wong offered a listening ear and encouraged her with practical steps to get back on track. The agent began to flourish and eventually joined her team.

“I make no apologies that part of real estate success is about making money,” says Wong. “It’s the kind of money that helps to make lives better and a little easier for the sole breadwinners in my team who were stressed and struggling before.”

Wong gave the example of a mid-career switcher from her team, who transitioned to real estate after leaving his stressful and time-consuming engineering job. Under her guidance, he is now able to spend more time with his children while still providing adequately for his family.     Her patience isn’t accidental. It’s honed through years of managing tough clients, guiding teams and — perhaps most meaningfully — being a parent. “Raising children teaches you that growth takes time. I apply the same philosophy with my team. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect progress.”

Wong believes that when leaders invest in people, results follow.

Work-life harmony

It’s easy to think that such a high-performing realtor must be constantly “on.” But Wong’s version of success includes space for stillness, including keeping a handwritten journal of “happy moments” that she jots in every day.

“I listen to music. I take walks. I spend time in nature. It keeps me centred,” shares the devoted Yogi and forest bather. Her personal life remains calm and supportive, shaped by her husband, her independent and academically driven children, and the freedom real estate provides.

“That flexibility is gold,” she says. “You work hard, but you work smart and you get to live your life on your own terms.”

She also walks the talk by investing in properties herself and using those experiences to guide her team and clients with real-world insights. Wong has a varied portfolio, encompassing not only local residential real estate but also commercial and overseas properties in Thailand and Cambodia.

Wong is eager to share her success with those who have the interest and passion to follow in her bold footsteps.

“To be very honest, I’ve been lucky and am beyond happy with my life,” says Wong. “I have this store of knowledge and experience to share, and I want others to similarly partake in the kind of joy that I’ve gained through my work.”

It’s this sense of purpose that drives Wong’s vision: not growth for the sake of scale, but the building of a team that lasts. One grounded in knowledge, accountability and mutual respect.

“If you’re someone who’s hard working, open to learning, and not afraid to try, this could be the place for you,” she says. Whether you’re an experienced agent seeking new energy or someone just starting with a hunger to grow, Wong offers more than just mentorship. She provides a mission.

“This career gives back what you put into it tenfold. If you’re ready to do the work, I’ll walk with you. Every step.”
