HDB has announced an extension of its voucher scheme aimed at young couples and families renting from the open market while awaiting the completion of their Build-to-Order (BTO) flats.
The Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS), which was originally scheduled to end in June, will be extended by six months until Dec 31, HDB says in a press release. Under the scheme, eligible families receive $300 per month on a reimbursement basis to defray rental costs.
HDB says the extension will sustain interim support for eligible families until it fully ramps up the supply of PPHS flats to 4,000 units by the end of the year, up from 800 units in 2021. About 200 households are expected to benefit from this extension, it adds.
To qualify for the PPHS, families must meet eligibility criteria, including having booked an uncompleted flat from HDB’s sales exercise and having a household income of $7,000 and below.
According to HDB, as the supply of PPHS flats has ramped up in recent years, the application rate for PPHS flats has come down significantly, from over 20 in 2021 to around three currently. Since June 2023, all eligible applicants who are married with children aged 18 and below, including expectant parents, have been invited to select a PPHS flat.
